Lauren Child’s humorous illustrations contain many different mediums, including magazine cuttings, collage, material, and photography, as well as traditional watercolours.

She wrote her first children’s novel, Utterly Me, Clarice Bean in 1999. Her second book in this series, Clarice Bean Spells Trouble, was shortlisted for the 2005 British Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year. Lauren began writing a series familiar to Clarice Bean readers in 2009: the Ruby Redfort series, based on Clarice Bean’s favourite literary character.

Lauren’s Charlie and Lola picture book series includes: I Will Not Ever, NEVER Eat a Tomato (2000), I Am NOT Sleepy and I Will NOT Go to Bed (2001), I Am Too Absolutely Small for School (2003), Slightly Invisible (2010), and One Thing (2015). A television series based on the Charlie and Lola books was made by Tiger Aspect for Disney/CBBC.

Lauren won the 2000 Kate Greenaway Medal for I Will Not Ever, NEVER Eat a Tomato, and the Nestlé Gold Book Award for That Pesky Rat and the Nestle Bronze Book Award for Beware of the Storybook Wolves.
