WHO WE HAVE WORKED WITH

Matt has been a radio and television broadcaster for just over fifteen years, presenting on some of the UKs most popular shows like Nickelodeon, The Big Breakfast and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Although, he would readily admit that during those fifteen years he has also worked on some of the UK’s worst ever shows too!

For the last five years he has been getting up at 3.46am to host his own breakfast radio show. As a result of this he has perfected the art of being able to sleep almost anywhere. His wife and children are not amused by this, particularly when it’s in a restaurant.

Working on TV and radio has meant that Matt has done some really cool things. He has hung out with hundreds of the most famous people in the world from Will Smith and Victoria Beckham, to Iggy Pop and Kermit the frog. He has been strapped to the top of planes, driven huskies in the Arctic Circle, sat in a space shuttle and held snakes in the jungle. He was also once bitten by a dolphin, a moment that “changed everything”.

Matt’s Compton Valance books are about a ten-year-old boy who accidentally creates his own time machine. The Most Powerful Boy In The Universe and The Time Travelling Sandwich Bites Back were published in 2014. The third instalment, Super F.A.R.Ts versus The Master Of Time was published in the spring of 2015.

Matt currently writes his stories in a shed, in his garden, in Buckinghamshire.

COMPTON VALANCE: THE MOST POWERFUL BOY IN THE UNIVERSE

Compton Valance: The Most Powerful Boy In The Universe was published by Usborne in 2014. When Compton Valance and his best friend Bryan Nylon discover the world’s first TIME MACHINE (aka a mouldy, thirteen-week-old-cheese-and-pickled-egg sandwich), they become the most powerful boys in the universe. But how will Compton and Bryan decide to use their incredible new time-travelling powers? Will they use them for good? Will they use them for evil? Or will they just focus their efforts on perfecting a formula for the world’s first pair of custard trousers?

COMPTON VALANCE: THE TIME TRAVELLING SANDWICH BITES BACK

Compton Valance: The Time Travelling Sandwich Bites Back was published by Usborne in 2014. Compton Valance has an incredible secret: he can travel through time using a stinky sandwich. And now he’s in big trouble! Because his evil brother Bravo has stolen the sandwich and is biting his way through time, causing chaos. It’s up to Compton and his bungling mate Bryan to stop Bravo before time runs out and the universe implodes. Yes, really.

COMPTON VALANCE: SUPER F.A.R.TS VERSUS THE MASTER OF TIME

Fresh from saving the universe, Compton and Bryan are whisked off to the future to become trainee Time Crime Agents. But when a notorious criminal mastermind escapes from a maximum security prison and kidnaps Bryan, Compton must race against time to save his best friend – and the world – from evil . . . using only a slimy sandwich!

COMPTON VALANCE: REVENGE OF THE FANCY-PANTS TIME PIRATE

Magnificently moustachioed madman Gussage St Vincent is back from the dead and set on using his pirate galleon time machine to become OVERLORD OF THE UNIVERSE. It’s up to Trainee Time Crime Agents Compton and Bryan to stop him, in a battle involving the pongiest pants in history, the Great Fish-Slapping Game and a LOT of custard pies.

ALIENS INVADED MY TALENT SHOW

Eric Doomsday loves doing magic tricks, even though they always end up going very wrong, so he’s determined to get it right for the Dreary Inkling school talent show. But when the talent-show judges reveal themselves to be hideous aliens who want to destroy the world, the fate of the planet rests on one boy. Can Eric’s magic really save the day?

MUTANT ZOMBIES CURSED MY SCHOOL TRIP

Ian Iansson is a little bit worried about his school trip. Firstly, Ian doesn’t have any friends, plus, his mum has packed him ten pairs of pants for the two-day trip. But as it turns out, these are the least of Ian’s problems. Because when Ian’s class arrives at the spooky old house, there’s something very weird going on. Something that looks awfully like zombies; groaning, dribbling zombies who are just wandering about . . . and no one but Ian seems to have noticed.

KILLER VENDING MACHINES WRECKED MY LUNCH

When Dreary Inkling Primary School’s headmistress buys some new vending machines, she never imagined that a freak electrical storm would turn them into killer robots . . . Suddenly, the vending machines are on the rampage! Can whizz-girl Drishya Samode step in to save the day – and unite the Tech-Heads and the Cool Girls at the same time?

I feel that the course exceeded my expectations. It’s totally worth doing.
