JUSTIN DAVIES

WHO WE HAVE WORKED WITH

Like Superman, Justin Davies leads a double life*: In one, he flies around the world as cabin crew. In the other, he writes middle grade fiction with the aim to make kids laugh. Sometimes the two lives converge; then it gets entertaining.

Justin lives with his husband in the shadow of the Forth Bridge in Fife. He arrived in Scotland via: The South (born in Berkshire/raised in Hampshire); The North (studied in Sheffield); The South (again); with brief, but intriguing, sojourns in France and Spain. Being half Welsh, and married to a Scot, Justin feels quite at home in a land of Celts.

Justin is an active member of The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in Scotland.

*But he doesn’t wear a superhero cape for either flying or writing. Perhaps he should.

Help! I Smell a Monster

This book STINKS . . . of monsters!

When Alice is sent to stay with her Uncle Magnus, she soon realises that his job agency isn’t quite … normal. It helps monsters find work that makes the most of their unique talons – er, talents. Alice is shocked to discover that monsters are EVERYWHERE. There’s even a Cyclops working in the castle as a pastry chef! But when he suddenly disappears, Alice smells something fishy. Can she and her uncle sniff out the missing monster before it’s too late?

I recently attended a training day at Hachette with Damian and Amy. It was fantastic and incredibly useful. Understanding how to better pace my event and conserve energy during a long day of author school visits was particularly valuable – I put some of my new skills into practice yesterday when I did three sessions in two schools.
